The Okinawa - Taiwan Regatta is an annual regatta organized by the Yaeyama yacht club. Also known as the Friendship Sailing Regatta. It lives up to its name of being a fun and friendly regatta with an incredible amount of camaraderie shown amongst skippers and crew from different nations.
This is the perfect regatta experience if you are new to sailing / yacht racing as the race program is relaxed and allows plenty of time for cruising around Japan's Rykyu Islands and enjoying the amazing local cuisine.
The annual race rotates between a start from Ishigaki and Miyako and this year, we will be starting the race from Taiwan, Keelung’s crystal clear waters.
You will arrive on Taipei / Keelung on the 19 May and check into the hotel / boat. The rest of the day is free and easy for you to explore the island’s offerings. There will be a dinner and welcome party organised by the regatta organisers and you will get to meet your fellow team mates and other sailors taking part in the regatta.
We begin day 2 with the whole team in place for a warm up race in the morning. This would be followed by some sail training in the afternoon as well as boat preparation for the passage race. In the evening, we will proceed to Keelung city center to check out the city's famous "miao kou" (temple entrance) street market.
On day 3, we will begin our morning early at the marina to prepare for the race to Miyako. The 190+ mile race would take us approximately 36 hours and we will expect to reach Miyako in the afternoon of Day 5. Upon reaching Miyako, we will proceed to check into our team hotel, rest and a welcome party would be hosted by the yacht club in the evening.

Day 6 will begin bright and early in Nagoya bay, Ishigaki. Teams will head for the race track after breakfast and take part in 2 races for the day. In the evening, all teams will attend the prize presentation and thank you dinner hosted by the yaeyama yacht club.
We would be cruising around Ishigaki on Day 7 with 2 overnight stays on the boat so that we can anchor in the beautiful waters around Ishigaki and soak in the warm light seabreeze and enjoy the quiet beauty the Island offers.
