The Okinawa - Taiwan Regatta is an annual regatta organized by the Yaeyama yacht club. Also known as the Friendship Sailing Regatta. It lives up to its name of being a fun and friendly regatta with an incredible amount of camaraderie shown amongst skippers and crew from different nations.
This is the perfect regatta experience if you are new to sailing / yacht racing as the race program is relaxed and allows plenty of time for cruising around Japan's Rykyu Islands and enjoying the amazing local cuisine.
The annual race will start from Ishigaki this year and we will end the race in Taiwan, Keelung’s crystal clear waters.
You will arrive on Ishigaki on the 11 June and check into the hotel / boat. The rest of the day is free and easy for you to explore the island’s offerings. There will be a dinner and welcome party organised by the regatta organisers and you will get to meet your fellow team mates and other sailors taking part in the regatta.
We begin day 2 with the whole team in place for a warm up race in the morning. This would be followed by some sail training in the afternoon as well as boat preparation for the passage race. In the evening, we will proceed to check out the city's famous Ishigaki Beef and have a sumptuous Yakiniku Dinner.
On day 3, we will begin our morning early at the marina to prepare for the race to Keelung. The 130+ mile race would take us approximately 24 hours and we will expect to reach Keelung in the afternoon of Day 4. Upon reaching Keelung, we will proceed to check into our team hotel, rest and a welcome party would be hosted by the yacht club in the evening.
